In Predictive Astrology, it is very important to understand the basic characteristics of a person before drawing any conclusion through the other planetary placements. If you have not, then at least you should have some knowledge about Nadi Astrology in order to understand this. A single planet contributes to the nature of a person based upon the combination of houses it signifies. To find out all the characteristics of a person, we need to assess all the nine planets. These are the basic combinations of houses:
  • Cordial & Friendly: 2 5 9 11
  • Depressive: 1 2 6 8
  • Aggressive: 7 8 12
  • Cold: 1 4 6 10


Step by Step Approach

  1. Analyze the Ascendant: By analyzing the ascendant I always mean that you should see the houses signified by the Lord of the Ascendant & the planets present in the Ascendant. If they are pointing to one direction, say cordial nature, then most of the time the native will show a cordial & friendly behavior.
  2. Check the Zodiac Sign in the Ascendant: Fiery sign people tends to be more aggressive, watery sign emotional, airy sign of mix nature & earth sign people are stable.
  3. Analyze all the Nine Planets: Find out which type of nature is signified by the majority of planets. If the majority goes with what the Ascendant is signifying then we can exactly tell that the person is either friendly, cold, depressive or aggressive.
  4. Analyze the Current Time Period: This is helpful when we get a mixed answer through the first three steps. Then the current time period will indicate the person's current state of mind.

Cases

  1. Combination Signified by the Ascendant Going Against the Majority
    The Ascendant is signifying cordial nature while the majority of planets are signifying depressive or aggressive, then the conditions around the native are not favorable but he/she always try to coordinate with others. If the case is opposite, then conditions are favorable while native makes everything wrong through his own stupidity.

  2. Ascendant or the Majority of Planets are signifying Mixed Combinations
    Suppose, the Ascendant is signifying 5 9 11 while the Majority of planets are signifying mixed combinations (say, 1 2 3 4 6 7 9 11 12) then the native would be able to maintain coordination with everyone. If the Ascendant is signifying 6 8 12, then things will remain disturbed & problematic most of the time. Same is with when the Ascendant is signifying mixed combinations while Majority of planets are signifying 5 9 11 or 6 8 12.


  3. Ascendant & the Majority of Planets are signifying Mixed Combinations
    In this case, everything will happen. Sometimes the person will get depressed & sometimes he/she will feel happy if the partial combinations are signified (1 2 3 4 6 7 9 11 12). The frequency of mood swings will increase depending upon if the planets are signifying partial or complete combination. If a planet is signifying 10 or more houses out of the 12 houses (say, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 12) then suddenly the person gets very angry and suddenly calms down & starts laughing.

  4. Ascendant & the Majority of Planets are signifying the same type of nature
    This is quite easy to analyze. Simply check which combination the planets are signifying and you can easily tell about the nature of that person.

Ascendant Lord for Scorpio Ascendant is Mars & Saturn is present in the Ascendant. Now, we need to analyze the Ascendant first.

  1. Mars
    Mars in Chalit Chart is owing houses 1, 5 & 6, this is because Mars owns the first & eighth sign of the zodiac which are Aries & Scorpio. - Refer to Astrology Basics
    & Mars is present in the ninth house in Chalit Chart.
    Therefore, Mars signifies 1 5 6 & 9.

    Now, similarly we have to analyze the Constellation & Sub Lord of Mars to know the complete house significations of Mars. - Refer to Rules of Nadi Astrology

    Mars is in constellation of Mercury(8 9 10) & Sub of Jupiter(2 4 11). The significations of Mars will be:
    Mars: 1 5 6 9
    8 9 10
    2 4 11
    From top to bottom, you can see a connected chain of 1 2 6 8, 1 4 6 10 & 1 5 9 11. This means that Mars is signifying a mix of depressive, cold & caring nature. Presence of 8 (or 6 or 12) in the middle will worsen the things as it is helping 6 present in the planet transfer the bad qualities to the house 2, completing the combination of 1 2 6 8. If you will interchange 8 with 2 then 8 & 6 will separate & there is no bad house in Constellation to help them and therefore the level of depression will decrease.


    But still Mars has repeated 9 & 2 5 9 11 is connected therefore, this person will stay happy but if this person will find some repulsion then he will feel bit depressed but remain calm & try to coordinate instead of fighting. This is what Mars is saying. This is Scorpio ascendant and is ruled by Mars, if other planetary placements will signify aggression then in time period of those planets he may plan a situation after sometime & hit back.

  2. Saturn
    Saturn in the Ascendant makes a person hard working but may make a person bit slow, unhealthy & depressive if not well placed. Saturn in Chalit Chart is owing third house and is present in first house, and it is in Constellation of Mercury & in Sub of Jupiter.

    Therefore, the significations of Saturn will be:
    Saturn: 1 3
    8 9 10
    2 4 11
    Now, this Saturn will give very good results. There should be at least 2 bad houses in order to make the planet give any bad result. Saturn is not giving depression in this case and it is signifying a mix of cordial & cold nature. This means the person will show caring to other people only when it is required. The person is very career oriented and less family/love  oriented as the combination 1 10 11 is present.
Through the Ascendant we can say that health of this person is will be fairly good and this person has a mix of cold & caring nature. But Mars is signifying difficult combinations and both Mars & Saturn are signifying 1 4 10, a combination gives an incurable diseases if it is signified by the majority of planets, therefore health may not remain well if other planets are also signifying combinations of bad health (1 4 6 8 10 12). 

The next step is to see the results from majority of planets. We see the majority because most of the times a person would be going through time period of those planets & dealing with those things only. One can also see the current or previous Main Time periods (Maha Dashas) in order to quickly conclude things.

Health

  • Combination for Good Health: 1 5 9 11
  • Combination for Bad Health: 1 6 8 12
The combinations which gives good/bad health & good/bad nature are pretty much same & the only difference is that the first house comes into play. First house is for health & body and when a planet signifies this house along with any other house, then effect comes on the body. Therefore, through astrology it can be easily concluded that people suffering from bad health also have a bad nature. They have some level of imbalance in their body due to which their nature is gets bad.


It is similar to if someone eats a lot of spices then it will cause inflammation in the body & will also increase aggressiveness as the Pitta of body gets imbalanced. - Refer to Stay Healthy with Ayurveda 

Special Planetary Alignments

  1. Jupiter or Mars present in the Ascendant signifying 6 8 12 makes a person spend lavishly. Such type of people tend to spend money out of their capacity and will survive until the planetary time periods support, otherwise, they incur a lot of debts. 
  2. Saturn or Mercury present in the Ascendant signifying 6 8 12 makes a person miser. Such people try to avoid spending as much as possible even if it is necessary to spend money. These people may not have a very good appearance or a very beautiful home as they will not spend a money but will have a lot of money in their bank account if planets supports good income.
  3. Mars & Pluto signifying 7 8 12 in the Ascendant, third house or seventh house gives a person very angry nature. Such type of people may even beat or scold other people for no reason or do domestic violence and might be very egoistic.
  4. Saturn in second house signifying 7 8 12 makes person a huge liar. Such people can also be frauds or crooks if other planets are ill placed. 
  5. Sun or Jupiter placed in the second house signifying good houses makes a person honest. 
  6. Saturn in the third house is signifying good houses makes a person very hard working and make that person put a lot of self efforts in order to achieve something. 
  7. Saturn/Rahu/Ketu signifying depression (1 2 6 8) and occupying second house makes a person addicted to alcohol, smoking or drugs.
  8. Jupiter in twelfth house or Sun with Ketu  signifying 5 9 11 makes a person of spiritual nature.
Such things can also be observed when planets are aspecting the indicated houses. Eg: Jupiter aspecting Ascendant while signifying 6 8 12. 

Specific House Combinations

There are few combination of houses if signified by a number of planets imparts a specific characteristic to the person.
  • 3 8: Makes a person of Daring nature
  • 3 6 10: Person will do a lot of self efforts
  • 5 10: Determination to achieve/do something
  • 1 5 6 10: Interest in Politics/Power
  • 4 9: Patriotism
  • 2 5 7 9: Family & Love Oriented
  • 2 6 10: Career & Money Oriented 
  • 5 9 11: Spiritual Growth
If any of these combinations is present in majority of planets especially in the Ascendant then the characteristic can be observed easily.

Apart from that, Astrologers do talk a lot about the effect of Planets in the Ascendant on the personality & appearance of the native like:
  • Sun in the Ascendant gives an easily noticeable personality.
  • Moon & Mercury gives a youthful look.
  • Venus gives a beautiful appearance.
  • Jupiter makes a person fat.
  • Mars gives a sporty look.
  • Saturn gives a long & stout body
  • Rahu/Ketu gives a bad appearance or deformity. 

But honestly, in my own experience I never saw this going 100% correct. If you see a person with a very youthful face & find Moon/Mercury in his/her chart then it does not mean this thing will apply all the time. 

Everything mentioned in this article, especially the combination of houses & the corresponding nature, will work almost every time. This is what I have observed:
  • If you do not pick up call or reply to a message from a person who is prone to depression (1 2 6 8) then such person will call you endless number of times and will annoy you without even realizing it.
  • People have 7 8 12 in majority of planets are quite impatient. They are prone to anxiety and if you will make them wait a lot they will come to you & burst with anger.
  • If the combination 5 9 11 is present in majority of planets then such people have a very simply & sober appearance & also maintain a good health.
  • People with 5 8 12 in majority tends to focus more on outer appearance and if the houses of bad health exceeds that of good health, then they care more about the clothes & hairstyle and less on physical well being. 
So, from now whenever you see someone intelligently analyze the behavior & appearance of that person & then you would be able to know which combinations that person might be having in the majority of planets.


It is hardly possible that someone will change in life, most of the time people never change. They always carry that basic nature which is signified by the Ascendant. But suppose, if majority of planets are signifying combinations of good behavior while the current time period is showing really negative things, then you can expect that the person is worth giving a chance & will change later.
